Hi friends, and welcome to my first blog post here at Rooted Chiropractic! I’m so excited to start using this space to share practical health tips, natural tools, and simple ways to help you and your family feel your best. My goal is always to make wellness feel approachable, empowering, and easy to apply in everyday life.
And with summer here, there’s no better place to start than with one of the season’s most common annoyances… bug bites.
Summer is for sunshine, evening walks, backyard barbecues, lake days, and letting the kids run barefoot in the grass. Unfortunately… it’s also bug season.
Mosquitoes, ants, bees, wasps, and all the other little summer pests tend to show up right when we’re trying to enjoy ourselves.
At Rooted Chiropractic, we believe in supporting your body naturally whenever possible while still being realistic about what works.
Why Do Mosquitoes Love Some People More Than Others?
Have you ever heard someone say, “The mosquitoes like you because you’re so sweet!”
Funny enough… there may be a little truth behind that.
Some people do seem to attract mosquitoes more than others, and while there can be many reasons, we often look deeper at things like blood sugar imbalance, inflammation, or dysbiosis (imbalances in the gut).
When the body is out of balance internally, it can sometimes show up in ways people never connect—including becoming a mosquito magnet.
This is one reason we love taking a root-cause approach. Instead of only focusing on the bite after it happens, we can also help prepare your body for bug season by supporting the systems underneath it.
At Rooted Chiropractic, we use our unique muscle and vial testing approach to help identify stressors and imbalances, then build an entirely personalized protocol for you. That may include specific herbs, remedies, nutritional support, and lifestyle changes designed to help your body heal and regulate using its own God-given healing ability.
Natural Bug Spray vs. Conventional Options
Let’s be honest—natural bug sprays are usually not as strong or long-lasting as conventional sprays containing DEET. If you’re hiking deep in the woods or in an area with heavy mosquito exposure, conventional products may offer stronger protection.
That said, many families prefer to limit chemical exposure for everyday use, especially for kids or frequent application. In those situations, natural bug sprays can be a great option—as long as you know they often need to be reapplied more frequently.
When looking for a cleaner bug spray, we recommend products containing ingredients like:
Lemon oil
Eucalyptus oil
Citronella oil
There are many other essential oil suggestions online, like lavender, but in our experience they often do not work well enough on their own when bugs are really active.
A natural brand that we recommend is Murphy’s Naturals.
Want to Make Your Own?
We carry doTERRA essential oils in office, so if you’d like help creating your own custom bug spray blend, we’d love to help you put something together that fits your family’s needs.
Natural Summer First Aid Matters Too
In the Just Ingredients podcast episode “Tips and Tricks You’ve Never Heard of for Bug Bites, Sunburns, Stomachaches & More” with Sara-Chana, they discuss building a natural summer first aid kit with herbs and remedies for common warm-weather issues like bug bites, bumps, scrapes, and sunburns.
We couldn’t agree more. I highly recommend giving that episode a listen where ever you listen to your podcasts.
What to Do After a Bug Bite
Even with the best prevention, bites happen. When they do, the goal is to calm inflammation, reduce itching, and support healing.
We carry a bug bite relief cream in office that many patients love to keep on hand during summer.
You can also consider homeopathic remedies, commonly found online or at natural health stores. I recommend having our favorites on hand so that you are prepared instead of having to rush to a health foods store when a bite gets to itching.

Our Rooted Approach
We love combining practical common sense with natural support. Sometimes that means using a cleaner bug spray and reapplying more often. Sometimes it means having a bug bite cream and remedies ready to go. Sometimes it means helping the body become less reactive and more resilient from the inside out.
Health doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.
If you’d like help building a natural summer first aid kit, creating your own custom bug spray blend, or getting to the root cause of why bugs always seem to choose you first, stop by the office—we’d love to help keep your family rooted, prepared, and enjoying the season.
